Outside Lands is here. After a cancellation in 2020, the festival is back for 2021, albeit delayed a couple months from its typical August dates.

The transformation of Golden Gate Park into a sprawling musical paradise, complete with resplendent VIP areas and even a cannabis marketplace, is a huge economic boon for the city to the tune of $60 million, according to the last financial report issued in 2017. Not all San Francisco residents are excited about the festivities though. For those living in the Richmond District and other neighborhoods around Golden Gate Park, it can feel like their whole lives have been upended.

But aside from the get-off-my-lawn contingent, Outside Lands is largely a celebratory affair, with a record 90,000 people attending the final day of the festival in 2019. Weather forecasters have graced the festival this year with predictions of moderate temperatures in the 50s and 60s, but then came a dose of sun that made the very many furry costumes a little steamy.
