Only Murders In The Building: Which Character Are You, Based On Your MBTI® Personality?

With the second series of Only Murders In The Building being released weekly, fans of the show can now find out which character they are most like.

With the second season of Only Murders In The Building being just as much a hit as the first season, fans will be thrilled to discover that the show has already been renewed by Hulu for a third season. No doubt they'll be expecting another funny, critically acclaimed murder-mystery masterpiece.

In season 2, the story picks up from the moment the first series left off: Mabel, Oliver and Charles are persons of interest in Bunny's murder. Already, fans are enjoying the fast-paced investigation in season 2, as well as the complex (and sometimes suspicious) new and returning characters, who can be best understood using the Myers-Briggs® system of personality types.

As one of the new characters in the second season, fans are still a little unsure of Alice Banks. Although she comes across as kind and intelligent, Alice first contacts Mabel at a suspicious time (immediately after her arrest).

Aptly, Alice's personality type, ISFP, is commonly referred to as 'the artist'. Indeed, as an artist and gallery owner, Alice craves the experience of great art and has dedicated her working life to it. Just like other ISFPs, Alice is reserved but kind, which makes her calming company for Mabel at this emotionally turbulent time.

Detective Williams is separate from the other Only Murders In The Building characters. Although she is highly invested in the goings on at The Arconia, she is an observer rather than a key player.

Like her ESTJ fans, Detective Williams values rules (specifically laws). Similarly, she is very confident and is comfortable being assertive, which is so important for her job. Indeed, she is an extremely hard worker and values her role as a detective above her home life.

As the murder victim of the first season, Tim's character remained very mysterious until the final episode of season 1, when fans finally discovered what really happened to him. Even the characters who knew him understood that he kept to himself and was highly secretive.

Indeed, Tim was certainly an introvert but, as an INTP, he had a rich, inner world. INTPs are known for being detail-oriented, good organizers and problem-solvers, often thinking outside the box. Indeed, this was what Tim was doing when he devised a plan to take down Teddy Dimas.

As Tim Kono's murderer in season 1, there is certainly more to Jan than initially meets the eye. Jan is most comfortable when she is at home playing her oboe, however, she enjoys getting to know other people deeply (until she murders them).

Indeed, Jan best fits with the ISFJ personality. She is an introverted person but also high perceptive, which certainly helps her to keep tabs on the Only Murders In The Building gang, their suspects and the investigation. She is a creature of habit, hence why it was so difficult for her when Tim Kono ended their relationship.

One of the funniest characters in the show, Howard, is a suspicious busybody. He is a larger-than-life character who provides sufficient comic relief in tense moments in the show.

As an INFJ, Howard is sensitive with others and treats them with empathy. However, he can be excessively sensitive and becomes highly distressed following the demise of his beloved cat. Although he has firm beliefs, he dislikes confrontation. However, this INFJ trait makes him perfect for the trio's questioning. He gives them new information which he hasn't expressed to anyone else.

Although Cinda was initially introduced to the show as a mentor to the three main characters (as well as being the commonality that brought the trio together), Cinda has become more of a competitor or rival in season 2.

As a murder mystery podcaster and ENTP, Cinda absorbs information and draws connections between things that other people would miss. She is logical and rational, and charming to everyone she meets, making people trust her so she can gather intel. Indeed, she once brought a turkey to suspect's door in a successful attempt to get a confession.

Although fans enjoyed Bunny's quirky and headstrong personality in season 1 of Only Murders In The Building, they have now got to know her a lot better in the second season, despite her untimely death.

Bunny's personality best fits with ENFPs. She understands others well. Indeed, Bunny seems to know everything about everyone at The Arconia. However, just like her fellow ENFPs, Bunny likes to keep her options open and can struggle to make decisions, like when she was torn between staying at The Arconia and moving to Florida.

Although initially Charles, portrayed by Steve Martin, comes across as introverted and reclusive at the beginning of season 1, fans see his happiness and energy levels rocket when he becomes friends with Mabel and Oliver.

It will come as no surprise to fans that Charles is an ESFP, commonly referred to as 'the performer'. He fondly and often recalls his time on Brazzos and certainly misses the feeling of being centre stage. Although ESFP's value logic, they often put more weight on personal feelings, just as Charles does when he realizes that Mabel is friends with Tie Dye Guy (or Oscar) and chooses to trust her nonetheless.

As one of the three amateur detectives in the show, Oliver's role in uncovering the truth often involves warming people up and persuading them to reveal what they know. He seems to be a friend to everyone, which helps the trio gather important information from all the relevant people.

In this sense, it is no surprise that Oliver is an ENFJ. Indeed, his skills of persuasion (or manipulation) has him securing funding for the podcast from Teddy Dimas and getting the scoop from employee of The Arconia, Ursula.

Mabel, one of the most likeable suspects on Only Murders in the Building, so often moderates where the other two members of the trio take the investigation. Putting logic at the forefront, Mable ensures Oliver and Charles do not create a fictional (but thrilling) story of what happened in their podcast and stick to the facts instead.

Mabel's MBTI personality, the ISTJ, is commonly and aptly referred to as 'the inspector'. She is detail-oriented and practical, although sometimes, from the outside, appears a little cold towards her friends (although they know she loves them).

Alongside her role as TV & Movies List Writer at SR, Ellen Greenstone is a psychology student and Psychology Project Worker. She has previous experience of public relations and working in the charity sector. Having lived in a quaint village in the English countryside for a number of years, she now lives in London. Ellen has long been banned by her friends from predicting the storylines and plot twists of movies and TV series, having done so "annoyingly accurately" far too many times before. Having grown up on a combination of popular sit-coms like F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Fraiser and How I Met Your Mother and celebrated sci-fi series, such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, she is still an avid horror and sci-fi enthusiast (and is currently completely obsessed with Stranger Things) but also finds guilty pleasure in watching teen dramas (and is not so secretly obsessed with Riverdale). Ellen particularly enjoys writing about stand-out quotes, intriguing characters and commonalities between shows, but really just loves delving into all things TV and movies.
