The newly branded speed enforcement vehicles will be hard to miss around Fort McMurray, which is exactly the point behind the new provincial requirement to ensure all vehicles are highly visible to drivers.

“We want drivers to see the yellow and blue trucks parked at major intersections or school zones, which are high risk areas and where most violations occur,” says Deanne Bergey, Director of Community and Protective Services. “Our goal is to make these areas safer by giving people a visual cue to ‘drive safe” and immediately slow down if they are going over the speed limit.”

Ticket revenue used to support local non-profit organizations

The Municipality recognizes many residents view the Automated Traffic Enforcement (ATE) program as just another revenue stream, which is not the case. “We don’t want to issue tickets, but when we do, all of the revenue after program expenses goes back to the community through the Community Investment Program grants,” says Bergey.
