DEAR SUN SPOTS: I know it has been printed before, but where can I bring old eyeglasses and frames? — No name, no town

ANSWER: Most eye care professionals and optical services shops such as Pearle Vision Center have a bin or box provided by the Lions Club for used complete pairs of eyeglasses. Walmart Vision Center has a drop-off as well.

If you ever go to Yarmouth or Cumberland, the Lions Clubs have a big presence there and provide eyeglass drop-off boxes at multiple locations. These include Cumberland Congregational Church at 282 Main St. in Cumberland, North Yarmouth Congregational Church at 3 Gray Road and North Yarmouth Town Office at 10 Village Square Road in North Yarmouth, Cumberland Town Office at 290 Tuttle Road and Prince Memorial Library in 266 Main St. in Cumberland Center.

Remember, Lions Clubs accept new and used, prescription, nonprescription (reading) eyeglasses, safety glasses, and sunglasses. Broken or incomplete glasses are not accepted. Contact lenses are not accepted either.

According to its website at https://www.lionsclubs.org/, the efforts of Lions Clubs in the field of vision are expansive and well-documented. Its SightFirst program has played a key role in reducing global blindness — building comprehensive and sustainable eye care systems, including projects that deliver eye care services, build or strengthen eye care facilities, train professionals, and build awareness about eye health in underserved communities.
